I bought this as a gift for an old friend who had admired my old Uncle Henry Bear Paw knife. Was a bit disappointed as my knife was purchased at a Pennsylvania sporting goods store in 1969 and is somewhat different from this model. First and foremost my 1969 version has Made in USA stamped on the ricasso of the blade, the new one has no markings on the blade but on the outside of the box it reads Made in China . I might have assumed this while ordering as the price was the same as I paid in 1969 when a candy bar was still 10 cents. That being said the knife appears to be well made with a forged blade not stamped steel though the handle is a bit thicker and it weighs a bit more than my antique version. There is also a small notch in the ricasso which may be part of an automated manufacturing process. Only time will tell how well it holds up as opposed to my 50 year old model. Should it ever suffer a catastrophic blade failure in normal use I may have to revise my review. But at the 1969 price it seems a good buy, I removed 1 star for the fact that these knives are no longer Made in the USA but still gave 5 stars for value.
